We say what something costs and how long it takes. And we say it too when a plan does not make sense in its current form.

We are Artim Industries, a small team from the Lower Rhine that builds, advises on and runs software.
Artim Industries came together in 2022, a group of programmers who wanted to develop their own products instead of only working on other people's.
The first projects turned into a company. Today we build custom software for businesses, advise on technology decisions and run what we have built. In parallel we work on our own products such as Methacore and ShellBase.
We have deliberately stayed small. When you call, you speak to someone who also writes the code.
Three things we hold to, even when it is inconvenient.
We say what something costs and how long it takes. And we say it too when a plan does not make sense in its current form.
No code nobody wants to touch a year later. We write so that other developers can carry on with it.
A launch is not a goodbye. We run, update and extend what we hand over.
Small enough that everyone knows what the others are working on.
Short, because we have not been at it long.
A group of programmers turns into a shared undertaking. First projects run alongside.
Registered as Artim Industries UG in Kevelaer. The side project becomes a company.
Methacore and ShellBase take shape. Client work grows in parallel.
Knowledge and support get their own homes: Artim Academy and Artim Support launch.
Small enough that everyone knows what the others are working on.

Runs the company and is the first point of contact for clients.

Methacore finally brings our club administration together in one place. Training groups, dates and attendance are considerably easier to manage, and members can sign up for or withdraw from events themselves. In day-to-day club work that saves us a lot of back and forth.
The course system is particularly practical for us because courses, dates and registrations are brought together clearly. The attendance overview helps too, because you no longer have to collect several lists. In a few places the interface could be a little more intuitive for new users.
Managing SSH access centrally makes a big difference for our team. Instead of maintaining permissions and server access in several places, we can control and trace access from one point. The role-based policies and the audit logging in particular give us far better oversight.
ShellBase takes a lot of complexity out of day-to-day server administration. Servers and access rights can be organised centrally, and the session logs keep what happened on the systems traceable. With several team members that is an enormous relief.
What convinced me most is the combination of central SSH access and a clean audit trail. You can define who may reach which systems and, at the same time, trace what happens inside a session. For infrastructure teams that is considerably clearer than scattered SSH keys.
We wanted to centralise our SSH access more while keeping control over permissions. ShellBase joins exactly those two things. The policies can be defined cleanly and the sessions monitored centrally.
Being able to use relays for different network environments is particularly interesting for us. It lets us connect hybrid environments in a more structured way, without organising SSH access for every system separately.
ShellBase brings considerably more structure to our SSH administration. The central sessions and audit logs are very helpful. For smaller teams the feature set is a little extensive at first, though, and you need a short run-in period.
The technical capabilities are extensive, but fitting it into our existing processes was not quite as straightforward as expected. With policies and roles in particular you first have to engage with the system in depth.
Fundamentally a good solution for central SSH administration. We particularly like the audit logs and the access controls. For simple setups, though, ShellBase is at times more than we actually need.
Managing our server access centrally has tidied up our previous processes considerably. What helps most is that permissions are no longer organised through individual keys alone, and that we have a traceable history of the sessions at the same time.
What convinced us is the combination of access control, monitoring and auditing. We can define centrally which user may reach which server, and still have a traceable overview of the sessions afterwards.
What I like most is that the Academy is not just classic video courses. You take part in digital sessions live and work on practical projects at the same time. That makes the learning feel much closer to real software development.
The personal timetable and the reminders before sessions make the organisation very pleasant. At the same time, tests and practical assignments give you direct feedback on where you stand. That helps especially when picking up new technologies.
The combination of theory and real software projects convinced me most. You do not only learn how a technology works, you put the knowledge straight into projects. I find the breadth especially exciting, from Python and JavaScript through to React, Docker and databases.
In terms of content the Academy offers a great deal, and being able to work with modern technologies is a big plus. At the same time the number of topics is demanding in places, and you have to invest a fair amount of your own time to keep pace with the projects and assignments.
We had several processes that ran on spreadsheets and manual transfers. Artim Industries helped us digitalise them and connect the systems involved through interfaces. What was particularly good is that not everything was digitalised for its own sake — we looked together at what actually pays off.
For us the interesting part was having a custom web app built. Instead of bending an existing product to fit how we work, we now have a solution that mirrors our actual processes and runs in the browser on different devices. Working together was straightforward and technically very clean.
We wanted to put our infrastructure on a more professional footing and to have a reliable contact for day-to-day operations at the same time. Artim Industries built and documented servers and deployment in a structured way. The monitoring in particular helps us, because we no longer notice problems only when a client phones.
Some of our internal processes still consisted of manual steps that cost time every day. Process automation let us drop several of those tasks entirely. What we valued most is that it was examined beforehand which automations genuinely make sense and where a manual process is actually better left alone.
We brought Artim Industries in for the technical architecture and the further development of our application. The independent assessment before implementation was particularly helpful. Nobody tried to sell us as much as possible; instead they said openly which option makes sense in the long run. That advice ended up saving us a lot of development effort.
My laptop kept getting slower and I did not know exactly why. Artim Industries looked at the problem, found the cause and set the machine up properly again. The explanation was understandable and I never felt fobbed off with jargon.
After buying my new laptop it mattered to me to bring my old data and settings across without collecting everything myself. The setup and the data migration were taken over completely, and in the end the new machine was ready to use straight away.
At home the Wi-Fi was regularly very slow in some rooms. Instead of simply adding another repeater, it was first established where the actual problem lay. The network was then adjusted accordingly, and since then the connection works far more reliably throughout the house.
I had wanted my own website for my work for a while, but did not fancy a complicated site builder. Artim Industries built me a custom website tailored exactly to my content. What I like most is that the page does not feel cluttered and that my work is what stands at the centre.
Backups used to be more of a "I really ought to get round to that" topic for me. Now the backup runs automatically and I do not have to remember it each time. What reassures me most is that it was also tested whether the data can genuinely be restored when it matters.
I had a problem with my PC that could be solved remotely. That meant I did not have to take the machine anywhere, and I could even carry on working while it happened. The solution was found quickly and it was explained to me in plain terms what had actually gone wrong.
